Project: Private House
Location: Aberdeenshire, Scotland
The brief was to create a functional family home for a growing family which respected its location and heritage.
When designing the building, we were very conscious that the new building was replacing one which had stood on the site for many years. Our initial response was to retain and adapt the existing ruin. However, due to its poor state of repair, it was decided a new building was designed.
A contemporary take on the traditional Scottish Crofting Cottage, the design maximises the use of space and flow by employing the use of clever double height spaces and a simple restrained palette of materials all within the very economical shape of the traditional crofting cottage.
