NOTTING HILL, LONDON
|
Project: Private House
Location: Notting Hill
Completed: 2014
Floor Area: 8500 sq ft
Designed by Simon Baker of Nash Baker Architects, the project included the complete re-construction of both a semi-detached Victorian villa and its neighbouring mews house, to create an 8,500 square foot luxury home in the heart of Notting Hill.
Located in a Conservation Area, the existing historic street elevation was retained, while the rest of the site was demolished to make way for two buildings linked by a 300sqm subterranean extension. The large basement was designed to accommodate a cinema, spa and swimming pool. Both buildings look onto a large courtyard garden, which creates a quiet, restful oasis in the hustle and bustle of London.
Whilst working for Nash Baker Architects, William Layzell acted as project architect responsible for the detailing, coordinating and administration of the build. The challenging design required extensive co-ordination and liaison with specialist consultants to develop bespoke details.
This speculative development has created a beautiful property, which delicately balances innovative contemporary design, functionality and respectful conservation.
